About the Maker

Established in 1705 under the patronage of Duke Leopold of Lorraine, the Portieux Glassworks began its journey in Portieux, northeastern France. In 1836, the Vallerysthal Glassworks was founded in Lorraine, marking the region as a significant center for glass production.

During the late 19th century, amidst geopolitical shifts, Vallerysthal acquired Portieux, forming the combined entity known as Portieux Vallerysthal. This strategic merger allowed the company to cater to both French and German markets, adapting to changing national boundaries.

Renowned for its exquisite opaline glassware, particularly in a distinctive robin's egg blue hue, Portieux Vallerysthal became synonymous with quality and artistry.

The company faced challenges post-World War II, leading to a cessation of production in 1977. However, in 1996, Groupe Faience Niderviller acquired its assets and brands, reviving the esteemed Portieux and Vallerysthal names in the glassware industry.
